The Bharat Electronics
Limited (BEL) is to supply space hardware amounting to Rs. 200
crore to ISRO in the next five years. The first batch of Invar
Filters, highly sophisticated and precision component manufactured
by BEL were handed over to the ISRO Chairman, Dr. Kasturirangan
in Bangalore yesterday. The filters are to be used in the communication
transponders of INSAT 3E and future satellites.
The BEL is also producing
C-band and Ku-band Receivers for ISRO’s communication satellites,
which involve the use of microwave integrated circuits. ISRO has
transferred the technology for the manufacture of Invar Filters
and Receivers to BEL besides funding the setting up of specific
facilities required for producing space hardware. The BEL has
also received orders from ISRO for the supply of ground terminal
equipment.
ISRO has been striving
to involve the Indian industry in its space programme, with substantial
increase in scope, both in terms of number of vehicles and satellites
being developed and launched. ISRO’s efforts are now aimed at
making the Indian industry graduate from supplying parts and components
to major systems required for its space projects. Involvement
of BEL in this, is part of ISRO’s strategy.
