FIRST AID KIT TO TREAT NBC INJURIES DEVELOPED
The First-Aid Kits chemical
warfare Type ‘A’ and Type ‘B’, designed by Defence Research and
Development Organisation laboratory, Gwalior to treat the nuclear
biological and chemical (NBC) warfare injuries primarily to augment
first aid resources available with soldiers when speedy evacuation
of casualties is not possible. The First-Aid Type ‘A’ Kit caters
to four-six personnel while Type ‘B’ Kit caters to 50-60 personnel.
The Type ‘A’ Kit contains
necessary medicines such as inhaler, antibiotics, antipyretic
tablets, dressing pads, personal decontamination kit, three-colour
detector paper, amylnitrate durules, etc. The contents of the
kit are housed in an aluminum box with shoulder straps for hanging
and securing the kit to the body of the soldier. The weight of
the kit is 2 kg and size is 330 mm x 145 mm x 115 mm. Semi-skilled
personnel can also use the kit.
The management of casualties
in chemical warfare environment necessitates augmentation of medicals
resources. The Type ‘B’ Kit has been developed to cater to such
a situation for immediate treatment by trained medical personnel
of chemical warfare casualties at Regimental Aid Posts. The kit
consists of all essential medicines, drugs, injectibles, syringes,
dressing materials detector paper, water testing kit, etc. The
contents of the kit are housed in an aluminum box compartmentalized
into three parts to keep various materials. It can also be used
at advanced dressing stations for treatment of casualties after
decontamination. The Kit measures 708 mm x 550 mm x 506 mm and
weighs 52 kg.
The kits have already been
introduced into the Services and their shelf life is subject to
expiry of medicine.
