RAIL FREIGHT TRAFFIC IN MAY


During May,2002, the Railways transported 42.46 Million Tonnes (MT) of revenue earning goods. This was 1.49 million tonnes more than the Goods transported during the same period last year.

In May,2002 the Railways transported 18.99 MT of Coal, 3.32 MT of Raw Materials, 0.97 MT of Iron and Steel, 1.18 MT of Iron Ore for Export, 4.07 MT of Cement, 4.02 MT of Foodgrains, 2.17 MT of Fertilizers and 3.11 MT of Petroleum, Oil and Lubricant (P.O.L) and 4.63 MT of Other Goods.

The Railways' Freight Traffic earnings during May,2002 were a total of Rs.2174.09 crores. Out of this Rs. 905.88 crores were from Coal, Rs.95.89 crores from Raw Material, Rs.104.15 crore from Iron and Steel, Rs. 44.57 crores were from Iron-ore for Export, Rs.187.85 crores from Cement, Rs.260.53 crores from Foodgrains, Rs.97.39 crores from Fertilizers, Rs. 247.88 crores from P.O.L and Rs.229.95 crores were from Other Goods.
