NATIONAL
COMMISSION ON CATTLE PRESENTS ITS REPORT TO SHRI AJIT SINGH
The report of the National Commission on Cattle was
presented to the Union Agriculture Minister, Shri Ajit Singh today.
The Acting Chairman of the Commission, Justice Guman Mal Lodha
along with some members of the Commission today handed over the
four volume, fourteen hundred page report to the Minister here.
Receiving the report Shri Ajit Singh thanked the Commission for
completing its exercise within the stipulated time of one year
and said that the report will be examined by his Ministry.
The Commission has made several recommendations including
constitution of a permanent National Cattle Development Commission
with allocation of Rs.100 crore per year for preservation and
development of cattle. Prohibition of slaughter of cow and its
progeny, ban on export of beef and veal, prohibition of cross-breeding
from imported cattle, discouraging the production and use of chemical
fertilizers and chemical pesticides, encouraging the use of cow
dung and cow urine in agriculture etc.
The Commission was constituted on 2nd
August, 2001 with Shri Dharam Pal, as Chairman,
Justice
Guman Mal Lodha, as Vice-Chairman alongwith thirteen other members.
