Union Agriculture Minister Shri Ajit Singh today held a meeting with the officials of Indian Farmers Fertilizer Cooperative Ltd. (IFFCO) and Krishak Bharati Cooperative Ltd. (KRIBHCO) to find out about their preparedness in helping the farmers of drought-affected states. Shri Ajit Singh enquired from them, if they had any micronutrient-based fertilizer which could be utilized in low moisture conditions. He also asked them to prepare specific plans for giving relief to farmers regarding availability of fertilizers and for provision of fodder for the cattle of these drought-affected States. The officials of the Cooperative informed the Minister that in view of the serious drought conditions the credit period offered by the Cooperative to the farmers need to be extended.

Shri Ajit Singh asked them to prepare an action plan immediately to implement the same without any further delay. During the meeting with the Secretary of the Department of Agriculture and Cooperation and other officials, Shri Ajit Singh observed that there is a likelihood of shortage of fodder. He suggested that steps for alternative plans for provision of fodder and their movement across different states need to be taken immediately.
