FLOOD CONTROL IN ASSAM

The information available from the State Government of Assam, there is predominant erosion especially in Rohmaria under Dibrugarh district, Lohitmukh area, Biswanathapanpur and Singri area under Sonitpur district, Matmara under Lakhimpur district, Kareng Chapari and Arney Chapari in Dhemaji district, Dainig Hatisal-Neamati area and Moriaholla area under Jorhat District, Desangmukh, Affal Misinggaon and Dikhowmukh in Sibsagar district, Bhuragad, Lahorighat, Boralimari and Mayang under Morigaon district, Palasbari-Gumi-Panikhaity. Chimina and Futuri area under Kamrup district, Mukalmua and Howlighat under Nalbari district, Chakabaushi-Jadarpur area under Barpeta district, downstream of Dhut town and Fakirganj, South Salmara under Dhubri district and Goalpara district.

The Brahmaputra Board has prepared a comprehensive Master Plans for Brahmaputra, Barak and its tributaries. Several recommedations for taking up floods, erosion and drainage congestion problem have been made in the aforesaid Master Plans. The Brahmaputra Board has taken up the execution of Harang Drainage Development Scheme and Pagladiya Dam Project in Assam.
