SHRI ADVANI BRIEFED ABOUT ACTIVITIES OF MINISTRY
OF COAL AND MINES
Shri L.K. Advani, Deputy Prime Minister
and Home Minister who is also holding the charge of Minister for
Coal and Mines, visited the office in Shastri Bhawan today and
took focussed meeting of both the Departments of the Ministry.
While welcoming Deputy Prime Minister,
Shri Ravi Shankar Prasad, Minister of State for Coal, Mines, Law
and Justice extolled the leadership qualities of Shri Advani,
particularly his capacity for going into detail. Shri Prasad said
that Shri Advani's guidance would help in ushering in reforms
with speed, in the key sectors of Coal and Mines for overall development
of the country.
In response to felicitations, Shri
Advani became nostalgic and said that he is visiting Shastri Bhawan
after 25 years. In 1977, Shri Advani used to sit in Shastri Bhawan
as Minister of Information and Broadcasting.
Detailed presentations of both the
Department of Mines and Coal were given on the functions, achievements
in various sectors such as disinvestment in mineral sector and
reforms in coal sector and the major issues concerning both the
Departments.
Among those present were the Secretaries
and senior officials of the Department and the CMDs of the PSUs.
