LABOUR MINISTRY TO LAUNCH AWARD SCHEME FOR
ITS EMPLOYEES TO ENCOURAGE A NEW WOK CULTURE
The Labour Ministry proposes to launch
an Award Scheme for encouraging punctuality and a new work culture
among its employees from this year. This was stated by the Labour
Minister Dr. Sahib Singh Verma while talking to the officials
of the Employees State Insurance Corporation here this morning.
Dr. Verma accompanied by the Labour Secretary Dr. P.D. Shenoy
made a surprise visit to the Corporation’s head office at 9.10
AM. He expressed unhappiness over a number of staff members not
having reported for duty by that time. Dr. Verma warned that habitual
late comers would be strictly dealt with and announced a reward
of Rs.100/- each for those employees of the Corporation who had
reported for duty in time today.
The Labour Minister made a
similar inspection of the office of his Ministry at Shram Shakti
Bhavan on Wednesday morning and found some officials not present.
Dr. Verma directed that the habitual late comers should be advised
and warned to be punctual and given time till 15th
of this month to mend their ways failings which strict disciplinary
action should be taken against them. He said that heads of the
branch offices would be held accountable for ensuring punctuality.
The Labour Secretary subsequently held a meeting of the Heads
of various divisions in the Ministry to communicate the Labour
Minister’s directions. He said that the Ministry would have, in
view of the radical changes taking place, to come up with an adequate
response to mitigate the hardships of the workers. Dr. Shenoy
said that demonstrable achievement on ground is possible with
optimum and efficient utilization of available manpower resources.
He said that subordinate offices would be directed and autonomous
bodies under the Labour Ministry requested to encourage a new
work culture. There are about 58,000/- officers and staff members
working in various offices including Corporations of the Labour
Ministry.
