THE COAL AND MINES MINISTER SUSHREE UMA BHARTI DECIDES TO OPEN AN PROVIDENT FUND OFFICE IN GODHAVARIKHANI IN KARIMNAGAR DISTRICT

THE MOVE TO HELP OVER ONE LAKH WORKERS OF SINGERENI COAL COMPANY LIMITED

WORKERS DEMAND MET WHO HAVE BEEN REPRESENTING SINCE 1973 FOR AN PROVIDENT FUND OFFICE IN GODHAVARIKHANI


To benefit over one lakh workers and the staff of Singereni Coal Company Limited, the Union Coal and Mines Minister Sushree Uma Bharti has decided to open a Provident Fund office in Godhavarikhani in Karimnagar district. Earlier, the office which was catering to the needs of Singereni Coal Company Limited at Kothagudem was shifted to Hyderabad in 1973. The workers have been facing problems towards Provident Fund, various advances relating to marriage, children’s education and house building for which they had to go to Hyderabad office to settle/pursue the payments.

In the meeting with the officers of the Ministry of Coal and Commissioner, Coal Mines Provident Fund Organisation today, Sushree Uma Bharti directed the Commissioner to open the office at Godhavarikhani by the middle of next month to settle the provident fund and other advance cases of the workers and staff. She reviewed the position of pendency of cases of provident fund and other advances, and also directed the Commissioner to make a time schedule for settling such payments. She has also asked the Coal Mines Provident Fund Organisation to modernise its offices including computerisation for speedy disposal.

The needs of the workers of Singereni Coal Company Limited were being met by Regional Provident Fund Office which was earlier at Kothagudem in Karimnagar district which was functioning since 1963. In 1973, a decision was taken to shift the office to Hyderabad. With the shifting of office, the workers have been facing problems and representing to open a Provident Fund Office in Godhavarikhani. The decision by the Coal and Mines Minister, Sushree Uma Bharti brings to an end to the problems of over one lakh workers. The Godhavarikhani Office will work as sub-office of Regional Provident Fund Office in Hyderabad.

The Telugu Desam Party Member of Parliament, Mrs. C.Sughuna Kumari has been raising the issue at the Parliamentary Consultative Committee Meetings of the Ministry of Coal.
