GOVERNMENT TO PROCURE LATEST EQUIPMENT FOR QUALITY TESTING OF SEAFOODS FOR EXPORT


Government has decided to procure latest equipment to test the Seafood for export to the International standards to be installed at seven existing laboratories of various government agencies at Kolkata, Bhubaneswar, Chennai, Mangalore (Karnataka), Mumbai, Cochin and Veraval (Gujrat). The equipments will also be installed at two new places i.e. Bhimavaram and Nellore (Andhra Pradesh) where the laboratories will also be set up. This information was given by the Minister of State of Agriculture, Shri Hukumdeo Narayan Yadav in written reply to a question by Prof. A.K. Premajan in Lok Sabha today. He further informed that the entire proposal to upgrade the existing laboratories at seven places and two new laboratories would cost approximately Rs. 18.50 crore. The Seafood Exporters Association of India has promised to contribute an amount of Rs. 3.00 crore in the project. The remaining expenditure will be met by the Department of Commerce, Government of India.
