UTTRANCHAL SUBMITS MEMORANDUM ON CENTRAL ASSISTANCE FOR DROUGHT AND FLOOD AFFECTED AREAS


The Chief Minister of Uttranchal, Shri N.D. Tiwari today met the Union Agriculture Minister Shri Ajit Singh here and submitted a memorandum seeking central assistance for the drought & flood-affected areas of his State. He requested Shri Singh to send a Central team to assess the situation in the affected areas and recommend Central assistance. Shri Ajit Singh said that the State should immediately start "Food for Work" programme under the ‘Sampoorna Grameen Rojgar Yojana" in the affected parts of the State. He said that the Centre would soon send Central teams to different States to assess the situation to recommend for assistance under the National Calamity Contingency Fund (NCCF). Before that is done, the State should utilize funds available under the Calamity Relief Fund (CRF), Shri Singh said.

During the discussion, Shri Ajit Singh told Shri Tiwari that his State can take advantage of the various schemes such as the Rural Godown Scheme, Cold Storage Scheme for proper storage of agricultural and horticultural produce. He asked Shri Tiwari to quickly pass Cooperative Laws similar to the laws passed by the Centre recently to make the Cooperatives more effective.
