TEXTILES PRODUCTION MAINTAINS POSITIVE TREND
The production of textiles has maintained
a positive trend in the current financial year 2002-03 during
April and May as compared to the corresponding period last year.
Although the total yarn production during the period increased
only marginally by 0.3 percent due to fall in production of Cotton
yarn and in blended and 100 percent non-cotton yarn, there was
an increase in the production man-made filament yearn.
Cloth production registered an
increase due to growth in production of power looms, while there
was fall in handlooms and mill sectors. Production of jute goods
also recorded a fall. Details of the production trends in yarn,
cloth and jute goods are given in the following table:
Yarn in million kgs.
Cloth in million mtrs.
Jute goods in thousand tonnes
