TWO DAY BRAINSTORMING SESSION FOR CONSULTATIVE COMMITTEE MEMBERS OF RURAL DEVELOPMENT MINISTRY, TO HAVE INTENSIVE DISCUSSION ON SCHEME GUIDELINES


The Parliamentary Consultative Committee attached to the Ministry of Rural Development Ministry will have a two day brainstorming session next month to improve the implementation of the various development schemes. The two day session is expected to take place early next month. Conceding to the members request to hold such a meeting in a hilly region, it was also decided to hold it in Himachal Pradesh.

The proposal to hold such a session was made by the Rural Development Minister Shri Shanta Kumar here today at the Parliamentary Consultative Committee meeting saying that he has received several suggestion from Members of Parliament pointing out weaknesses in the system. He said the two day session will give enough opportunity to the members of the Committee to discuss the guidelines of each and every scheme threadbare and suggest changes to make them effective. Shri Shanta Kumar pointed out that lack of proper implementation remains the biggest hurdle in reaching out to the rural poor. He emphasized that if the programmes are properly implemented, the condition of the rural poor will definitely change.

Participating in the discussion members welcomed the proposal of the Minister. They pointed out that Members of Parliament are often not consulted by either the Zilla Parishads or DRDAs. They pointedout that MPs should be consulted in the sanction of funds to DRDAs. Those who participated in the discussion are Shri Chinmayanand Swami, Shri P.S. Gadhavi, Shri Man Singh Patel, Shri Raosaheb Patil Danve, Shri Chintaman Wanage, Shri G. Mallikarjunappa, Shri T.M. Selvaganpathi, Shri Raghuraj Singh Shakya, Shri Y.V. Rao, Shri A.F. Golam Osmani, Shri Bhaskarrao B. Patil, Dr. D.V.G. Shankar Rao, Shri Bhal Chandra Yadav, Shri E. Ponnuswamy and Shri Shyam Lal.
