CENTRE TO SET UP FIVE NEW INDUSTRIAL TRIBUNAL-CUM-LABOUR
COURTS
RAJYA SABHA
The Centre
will set up five new Industrial Tribunal-cum-Labour Courts. Stating
this in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha, the Minister of State
for Labour Shri Ashok Pradhan said that the new courts will be
set up at Delhi, Chandigarh, Ahmedabad, Guwahati and Ernakulam.
He said that there is, however no proposal to increase the number
of Presiding Officers. Shri Pradhan said that although the Labour
Ministry does not interfere in the functioning of the Presiding
Officers, they have been told from time to time the need to reduce
pendency in disposal of industrial disputes. He said the Industrial
Disputes Act was also amended in 1982 to make a specific provision
for disposal of cases relating to individual workers within three
months. Cases however, take a longer time for disposal as the
parties seek repeated adjournments or obtain a stay from the higher
courts of law, the Minister added.
