RS. 35.83 CRORE RELEASED TO MAHARASHTRA AND MADHYA PRADESH FOR
RURAL DRINKING WATER
The Ministry of Rural Development has released Rs.
3583.20 lakh for rural drinking water to Maharashtra and Madhya
Pradesh under centrally sponsored Accelerated Rural Water Supply
Programme (ARWSP) of Rajiv Gandhi National Drinking Water Mission
(RGNWM) for the year 2002-03. Out of this, Rs. 2666.80 lakh is
for Maharashtra and Rs.916.40 lakh for Madhya Pradesh. The funds
will be utilized for execution/completion of schemes to provide
safe drinking water facilities to rural habitations and schools.
Priority is to be accorded to cover Partially Covered and water
quality affected habitations of these States. The States should
meet targets out of the funds released under ARWSP along with
their matching grants.
As per the target for the year 2002-03, Maharashtra
has to cover 1000 Not Covered, 11810 Partially Covered habitations
and 2287 schools from the funds provided by the Centre along with
its matching grants. With this, the center has released Rs. 8414.50
lakh as first installment against the provisional allocation of
Rs.16829 lakh for 2002-03.
Madhya Pradesh receives Rs. 916.40 lakh with a target
of covering 5000 schools in the State. With this, Rs. 3579.50
lakh stands released as first installment against provisional
allocation of Rs. 7159 lakh for ARWSP to the State during 2002-03.
Besides, Madhya Pradesh also gets Rs. 537.39
lakh for Integrated Wasteland Development Programme (Employment
Assurance Scheme – Watershed Component) for completion of ongoing
watershed projects during the current financial year. The districts
that share the amount are: Jhabua (Rs.240 lakh), Narsinghpur (Rs.
110.01 lakh), Ratlam (Rs. 103 lakh), Shajapur (Rs. 84.38 lakh).
The districts have to complete the projects taken up prior to
April 1st, 1999, with these funds.
