EXPORTS UP BY OVER 12% IN JUNE 2002

INDIA'S FOREIGN TRADE DATA FOR APRIL-JUNE, 2002-2003

India’s exports during April-June, 2002-2003 are valued at US $ 11525.45 million which is 11.29% higher than the level of US $ 10356.40 million during April-June, 2001-2002. In rupee terms, the exports were Rs.56429.77 crore, during April-June, 2002-2003 which is 16.16% higher than the value of exports during April-June, 2001-2002.

Exports during June, 2002 are valued at US $ 4075.77 million which is 12.84% higher than the level of US $ 3612.15 million during June, 2001. In rupee terms, the exports were Rs. 19957.61 crores, which is 17.55% higher than the value of exports during June, 2001.

India’s imports during April-June, 2002-2003 are valued at US $ 13190.82 million representing an increase of 3.17% over the level of imports valued at US $ 12785.54 million in April-June, 2001-2002.

Oil imports during April-June, 2002-2003 are valued at US $ 4341.19 million which is 11.40% higher than oil imports valued at US $ 3897.10 million in the corresponding period of last year. Non-oil imports during April-June, 2002-2003 are estimated at US $ 8849.63 million which is 0.44% lower than the level of such imports valued at US $ 8888.44 million in April-June, 2001-2002.

Imports during June, 2002 are valued at US $ 4441.49 million registering an increase of 10.56% over the level of imports valued at US $ 4017.31 million in June, 2001. In Rupee terms the imports increased by 15.18% during April-June, 2002-2003.

The trade deficit for April-June, 2002-2003 is estimated at US $ 1665.37 million which is lower than the deficit at US $ 2429.14 million during April-June, 2001-2002.

Tables giving details of exports, imports and trade balance, according to the provisional estimates of Directorate General of Commercial Intelligence & Statistics (DGCI&S), are attached.
