DISPOSAL OF CLAIMS CASES MADE MORE CONSUMER FRIENDLY

The Government has amended the Railway Claims Tribunal (RCT) (Procedure) Rules to provide for expeditious disposal of claims by the Railway Claims Tribunal and to make the system consumer friendly.

Accordingly, passengers can now file claims for compensation at an originating station, destination station or where the ticket was purchased or the place of residence as against only at the place of occurrence of an accident as was the case earlier.

Other advantages include restriction in number of adjournments to three in each case, pronouncement of order within 21 days of final hearing and supply of certified copy of orders to claimants free of cost.

These user-friendly steps are intended to facilitate expeditious settlement of claims cases.
