BASANAGOUDA R. PATIL – A PROFILE
Shri Basanagouda
R. Patil, who assumed the office of the Minister of State for
Railways today (September 9, 2003), was earlier Minister of State
for Textiles.
Born on December
13, 1963 at Bijapur in Karnataka, Shri Patil is B.Com. He was
elected to the Lok Sabha in October 1999 from Bijapur Lok Sabha
Constituency as a Bharatiya Janata Party(BJP) candidate. Earlier
in 1994, he was first elected to the Karnataka Legislative Assembly
for the first time on BJP ticket from Bijapur Assembly Constituency.
He was Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) up to 1999 and
during that period served as a Member of the Public Accounts Committee.
He has been serving the BJP as President of the Bijapur District
Unit since 1995. As a Member of Parliament, he has been on the
Committee on National Development, as also the Consultative Committee
of Railways. In 2002, he was selected as the Chairman of the Consultative
Committee of Karnataka State Branch of the Food Corporation of
India. He has been serving as the President of Bijapur District
unit of the Bharat Seva Dal since 2001. He has also been serving
as Chairman of the Sri Jnanayogi Sri Shivakumara Sugar Factory
since 2001. Still earlier, he was elected as Director of the Sri
Siddeshwar Society and has been serving the organization as its
president since 1993. He joined the active politics after his
election as Vice-President of the Bijapur City unit of BJP. The
same year, he was elected as Secretary to the Bijapur unit of
BJP. In 1991, he was elected as President of the Inapur Agriculture
Cooperative Society. He was elected thrice consecutively as Director
of the Sri Siddeshwar Cooperative Bank since 1994. At present,
he is President of the Sri Siddeshwar Bank since 1999.
Shri Patil is
an agriculturist and social worker of repute. A pleasant person,
he has the quality of leadership that carries with it the entire
people of his Constituency.
