DEFENCE R&D DOORS OPEN FOR SMALL-SCALE INDUSTRIES - FERNANDES


The doors of Defence Research and Development Organisation will always be kept open for the Small-Scale Industries (SSI) for guidance in technological advancement so as to increase SSI productivity. The Defence Minister Shri George Fernandes stated this while inaugurating a Vendor Development Programme, here today.

Referring to the ongoing thrust on indigenisation in the Defence Ministry, the Minister said that the SSI can play a vital role by increased participation in defence production. Citing the example of the Light Combat Aircraft ‘Tejas’ Shri Fernandes said that 120 small-scale industries were involved in its production.

We must immediately ponder over the question of revival of sick SSI units he said. Shri Fernandes assured the gathering that he and the Union Minister for Small Scale Industries Dr. C P Thakur will take up the existing problems of the SSI with the Prime Minister.

The Minister recalled the recent small scale industry exhibition held in Kolkata and said that the armed forces showed keen interest in purchasing their products. Mr. Fernandes predicted a bright future for SSI and said that he always encouraged the purchase of SSI products in his Ministry.

Talking about the work culture in India, the Minister said that shirking work is detrimental to national progress.

Laghu Udyog Bharati is organising the two day national level Vendor Development Programme cum Buyer-Seller Meet and Exhibition in association with National Small Industries Corporation and Small Industries Service Institute. Shri Fernandes inaugurated the Exhibition in the presence of the Union Minister for Small Scale Industries Dr. C P Thakur.
