NEW WATERSHED PROJECTS FOR GUJARAT


Ministry of Rural Development has sanctioned new watershed projects under the Centrally Sponsored Scheme "Desert Development Programme" (DDP) to Gujarat. Ministry has released Rs. 89.40 crore for planning and development of 298 new watershed projects for implementation of Desert Development Programme (DDP) in 52 blocks of 6 districts of Gujarat. These districts are Banaskantha, Jamnagar, Kutch, Patan, Rajkot and Surendernagar.

The project cost shall be shared by the Central and State Government in the ratio of 75 : 25. The ZP/DRDA shall release project funds to the PIAs/Gram Panchayats within 15 days of receipt of funds from the Central/State Governments.

The watershed projects shall be executed by the Gram Panchayats under the guidance and control of Gram Sabhas/Ward Sabhas. The Project Implementation Agency (PIA) for the project shall be the concerned Block/Intermediate Panchayat, which shall be appointed by the ZP/DRDA concerned as per provisions of the Guidelines for Hariyali.
