INSTALLATION OF AUXILIARY WARNING SYSTEM ON RAILWAYS

Indian Railways is considering adoption of a new Auxiliary Warning System (AWS) on similar design as existing on Mumbai suburban section and compatible with Euro-balise (ground equipment). This follows recommendations of the Justice Khanna Railway Safety Review Committee, having suggested use of Train Protection and Warning System (TPWS), a variant of AWS on Indian Railways.

AWS is working satisfactorily on Mumbai suburban sections of Central and Western Railways on 538 track kilometres since 1987.

AWS is a radio-based automatic train control system, which ensures safe train services. Its application on all over Indian Railways will go a long way in improving safety of rail services to the Nation.
