RAIL FENCING TO PREVENT ELEPHANT HITS IN JHARKHAND

The Railways have planned to provide fencing of tracks at vulnerable locations on Goelkera-Manoharpur section of Chakradharpur Division of Howrah-Nagpur route in the State of Jharkhand to prevent elephant hits of trains resulting in accidents. All along this track is a dense forest, which has been declared as Elephant Reserve by Forest Department of the State.

The rail fencing will be provided at vulnerable locations on 50:50 cost sharing basis by State Forest Department and Railways.

The work of construction of elephant proof fencing on fifty-fifty cost sharing basis has already been sanctioned. It will start as soon as money is deposited by the Forest Department.

The work will be completed in two years time.
