FOUR SPECIAL DENGUE DIAGNOSTIC AND PREVENTION CAMPS IN FOUR ZONES OF DELHI WILL BE ORGANISED FROM 31ST OCTOBER

Director General, ESI Corporation Dr. Ajay Dua disclosed today in New Delhi that four special dengue diagnostic and prevention camps will be organized in four zones of Delhi starting from 31st October, 03. Each camp will last for two days and will be open to the general public besides the registered ESI beneficiaries. Dr. Ajay Dua was addressing a press conference on arrangements for dengue control in Delhi through ESIC Hospitals and Dispensaries. He also said That about 825 suspected cases were referred to 4 ESI hospitals by the 33 ESI dispensaries located in Delhi area over the last five weeks. About 200 cases were found dengue positive, out of which 40 cases were of serious nature. However, all referred cases were managed professionally and not a single death was reported from any of the four ESI hospitals.

The Director General also stated that for immediate detection and treatment of dengue cases, the ESI scheme in Delhi area has taken the following measures:-

All ESI hospitals and dispensaries have been declared as dengue diagnostic centers and a nodal officer has been identified in each of the medical establishments for coordination purposes. Public awareness lectures are being organized on a regular basis by all the four ESI hospitals. All the ESI hospitals in Delhi have been provided with special dengue diagnostic kits each costing Rs. 11,500/-.

In order to create awareness among the Delhi citizens in general and among 22 lakh ESI beneficiaries in particular ESIC is organizing four special dengue diagnostic and prevention camps in four zones of Delhi viz. Peeragarhi (31.10.03 – 01.11.03; Ambedkar Nagar (01.11.03 – 03.11.03; Nandnagari (04.11.03 – 05.11.03 and Samaipur Badli (06.11.03 – 07.11.03). The medicines will be made available to the needy on the spot. Blood donation camps will also be organized at all the four camps sites. These four camps will also be the focal point for dengue awareness programmes.

ESIC has been actively involved in the detection and prevention of dengue among the highly vulnerable segment of Delhi’s population viz. the industrial workers. Given their poor socio-economic backgrounds, living conditions, coupled with lack of awareness amongst the lower paid categories of employees, many of whom live in slum colonies are more susceptible to the dengue fever.
