FREIGHT LOADING PERFORMANCE OF RAILWAYS
The Railways achieved
a significant growth in freight loading performance from October
1999 to September 2003.
The originating
revenue earning freight loading in Million Tonnes (MTs) rose from
468.77 MTs in October 1999-September 2000 to 537.18 MTs in October
2002-September 2003. It was 476.38 MTs in October 2000-September
2001 and increased to 508.56 MTs in October 2001-September 2002.
The year-wise
growth during the period was 7.46 per cent in October 1999-September
2000, 1.62 per cent in October 2000-September 2001, 6.76 per cent
in October 2001-September 2002 and 5.59 per cent in October 2002-September
2003.
The freight loading
registered a robust growth during the period from October 2001
to September 2003.
During the period,
rail transportable demand of core and non core sector was met
fully. Besides, Railways created sufficient infrastructure to
carry freight traffic and to meet demand of rail transportation.
