EARNINGS FROM REVENUE FREIGHT UP IN FIRST HALF
The Railways earned
Rs. 13,159.82 crores from 266.43 Million Tonnes (MTs) of revenue
freight traffic during the first half of the current financial
year ending September 2003 as compared to Rs. 12,932.99 crores
during the corresponding period of the previous year, recording
an increase of 1.75 per cent.
Of the total earnings,
Rs. 5,615.97 crores came from transportation of 120.60 MTs of
coal, Rs. 568.65 crores from 21.14 MTs of raw materials to steel
plants, Rs. 651.43 crores from 6.74 MTs of finished iron and steel
from steel plants, Rs. 391.49 crores from 10.34 MTs of iron ore
for exports, Rs. 1053.50 crores from 23.61 MTs of cement, Rs.
1603.55 crores from 22.98 MTs of foodgrains, Rs. 562.60 crores
from 12.44 MTs of fertilizers, Rs. 1194.38 crores from 15.62 MTs
of petroleum oil and lubricant (POL) and Rs. 1538.25 crores from
other goods.
