PRICES OF 19 FORMULATION PACKS REVISED/FIXED


The National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority has revised/fixed the prices of 19 formulation packs on 25th November, 2003. Out of 19 packs, vide S.O. No.1354(E) dated 25th November, 2003 the Ceiling Prices in respect of 15 ciprofloxacin formulation packs have been fixed for the first time under DPCO, 1995. These ceiling prices are applicable to all manufacturers except for M/s. Ranbaxy Laboratories Ltd., Regd. Office : Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar-160055, Distt. Ropar (Punjab). The prices of 4 Non-Ceiling Packs have also been fixed. While fixing these prices, the notified price of bulk drug Ciprofloxacin HCl at Rs.4190/kg notified on 20.3.1997 vide No. S.O.227(E) has been taken into account.

The prices have been fixed/revised in accordance with the provisions of the Drugs (Prices Control) Order (DPCO), 1995 and as per the established criteria and guidelines. A copy of the statement showing the notified prices is enclosed herewith.

Ciprofloxacin is categorized under quinolone group of Antibiotic, active against both Gram-negative and Gram-positive organisms including those that are resistant to penicillin, cephalosporins or aminoglycosides. The Ciprofloxacin formulations are used for UTI, respiratory, ENT, Eye, Skin & Soft tissue, bone & joint, pelvic, biliary tract, intra-abdominal & GI Infections etc.

The prices fixed/revised would become effective within 15 days from the date of notification in the official gazette or the receipt of the Non-Ceiling Price (NCP) Order of the NPPA in this behalf, as per Para 14(1) of DPCO, 1995. Necessary revised price list is to be issued by the manufacturers/importers required under sub-paragraph (3) of paragraph 14 of the DPCO, 1995. Accordingly, as per the provision, the revised price list in Form-V of the DPCO is to be furnished by the concerned manufacturer(s) to the government and NPPA, State Drug Control Authorities and distributors, wholesalers and retailers or any other agent.

The manufacturers are also required to work out the pro-rata prices of different pack sizes as the case may be in terms of S.O. No. 83 (E) dated 27.01.98.
