INDIA-ITALY SIGN NEW ACCORD FOR ENHANCED
COOPERATION IN SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY
India and Italy signed
here today a new agreement paving the way for enhanced cooperation
in frontier areas of Science and Technology. The new agreement
will replace the Indo-Italian S&T agreement of 1978. The new
accord was signed between the Deputy Foreign Minister Ms. Margherita
Boniver and the Minister of State for Science and Technology Shri
Bachi Singh Rawat.
Apart from exchange
visit of Scientists, the on-going joint research projects in the
fields of materials science, seismology, bio-medical sciences,
medical radiology, computer science, micro-electronics, physics,
technology and application of accelerated particles will be further
strengthened. The Indian Scientists will have access to Italian
synchrotron radiation facility at Trieste. This is for conducting
investigations in fields materials science, protein structure
etc. Collaboration between the two sides in neuro-medical research
as well as in magnetic resonance will be taken up in a big way.
A new model bilateral cooperation, namely, India-Trento Programme
for advanced research is envisaged for two-way mobility of researchers
and strengthening of experimental research facilities in areas
of micro systems, physics and material sciences and telecommunication
and computer sciences.
The new agreement
provides for comprehensive autonomy in the execution of scientific
projects as well as takes care of IPR protection in joint research
projects.
