CAG RECONSTITUTES AUDIT ADVISORY
BOARD
CAG has reconstituted
the Audit Advisory Board to advise the CAG in matters relating
to audit and suggest improvements in the scope, performance and
focus of audit within the framework of the Constitutional and
statutory mandate of the CAG. The Board consists of Dr. Abid Hussain,
Former Ambassador, USA, Dr. Y.K. Alagh, Vice Chancelllor, Sardar
Patel Insitute for Economic Research, Shri N.R. Narayan Murthy,
Chairman, Infosys Technologies Limited, Shri P.K. Pachauri, Director,
Tata Energy Research Instiute, Shri M.A. Pathan, Resident Director,
Tata Services Limited, Shri U.R. Rao, Chairman, Physical Research
Laboratory Council, Shri R. Bhupathy, President Institute of Chartered
Accountants of India, Shri P. Shankar, Centr! al Vigilance Commissioner,
Lt. Gen (Retd) D.V. Kalra, Shri J.S. Mathur, Retired Deputy CAG,
Shri I.I.M.S. Rana, Former Chairman, Railway Board and Shri N.
Rangachari, Former Chairman CBDT & IRDA. Shri P.K. Brahma,
Ms. Sudha Rajagopalan and Shri S. Sathyamoorthy, Deputy Comptroller
and Auditors General will be ex-officio members of the Board.
The members will
function in an honorary capacity for a period of two years from
the date of their nomination. The first meeting of the Board is
scheduled to be held in February 2004.
The reconstitution
of the board is particularly relevant at a time when the role
of public audit is being reviewed to make it more purposeful.
A perspective Plan of the CAG’s organisation has been finalized
in 2003 in the backdrop of the liberalization of the Indian economy
and the changing role of Government in this context.
