WATER RESOURCES SECRETARY VISITS PAVILION AT IITF-2003


Shri V. K. Duggal, Secretary, Ministry of Water Resources visited the Water Resources Pavilion at India International Trade Fair –2003 here today. He lauded the efforts made by the Ministry for showcasing its contribution in undertaking large number of irrigation projects to educate cross-section of population in the conservation and augmentation of water resources.

During the Fresh Water Year, the Ministry of Water Resources pavilion at IITF-2003 has endeavoured to convey the message of various aspects of Water Sector, particularly its development through major and medium projects and augmentation of ground water resources through rainwater harvesting structures. Various organisations of the Ministry namely, Central Water Commission, Central Ground Water Board, Central Soil and material Research Station, National Institute of Hydrology participated in the exhibition. The dissemination of information has been undertaken through photo panel, display boards, transparencies, LED and working models of various projects which have successfully been implemented by the Ministry.

Models of various major and medium irrigation projects have been displayed which include Dhauli Ganga H.E. project (Uttranchal, GhaggerSukhchain Lift irrigation Scheme (Haryana), rainwater harvesting structures at Golden Temple, Amritsar, Brahm Sarovar at Kurukshetra and Shram Shakti Bhavan, New Delhi. Besides, efforts were made to sensitize people about the scarcity value of freshwater and action required to preserve and augment the freshwater resources. Latest Geo-technical technique and technological developments related to hydrological modeling and R&D were conspicuously displayed in the pavilion. The most interesting aspect of the exhibition is the display of mass awareness measures regarding conservation and augmentation of ground water through puppet show.

Exhibits of the pavilion attracted large number of visitors from the beginning as it caters to the information needs of the people. This is an Annual feature of the Ministry for making an exposition of its activities.
