TRACK MAINTENANCE FOR IMPROVING RAIL
SAFETY
Indian Railways
have decided to adopt the zero maintenance fittings concept applicable
to all track gangs for improving safety of rail services.
Other measures
include introduction of concept of the zero avoidable track defects,
safety tolerance for track, mechanized maintenance of track, lubrication
on curves, points and crossings, weak track, work sites and at
poor formations, and adoption of long-term policy for rail grindings.
Some other steps
include adoption of long-term policy for rail grindings, procurement
of longer rails from steel plants, portable flash butt welding
plant and machinery and anti-sabotage measures for protection
of tracks.
