FUNDS FOR NEW LINES AND GAUGE CONVERSION

The projects are being progressed as per availability of resources. As on April 1, 2003, there are 122 ongoing projects of New Line and Gauge Conversion which are yet to be completed, requiring about Rs. 34,600 crore for their completion.

There has been substantial increase in the outlays for projects during 2003-2004 in comparison to previous years. Efforts are being made to increase extra budgetary resources to expedite completion of projects.

This information was given by the Minister of State for Railways Shri Bandaru Dattatraya in a written reply to a question from S/Shri Suresh Kalmadi and Santosh Bagrodia in the Rajya Sabha today.
