EXTENSION OF RAIL LINES IN NORTH-EASTERN STATES

RAJYA SABHA

The works of Harmuti-Itanagar and Diphu-Karong new lines have been included in the Budget. However, based on request of State Governments, surveys for alternative alignment from Bedeti-Itanagar and Jiribam-Imphal have been taken up. The survey from Jribam to Imphas has been completed and has been processed further. The completion of these projects would depend upon availability of resources.

Furthermore, the following surveys for new lines are also in progress: Jogighopa-Silchar line in Meghalaya and Assam, Azra-Byrnihat line in Meghalaya and Assam, Dimapur-Kohima line in Nagaland, and Bairabi-Sairang line in Mizoram.

This information was given by the Minister of State for Railways Shri Bandaru Dattatraya in a written reply to a question from Shri Shankar Roy Chowdhury in the Rajya Sabha today.
