RAJDHANI EXPRESS TO HAVE NEWLY ROLLED OUT GERMAN COACHES


Indian Railways will be introducing shortly newly rolled out modern high speed state-of-the-art coaches, manufactured indigenously at Rail Coach Factory (RCF), Kapurthala under technology transfer package from M/s ALSTOM Linka Hoffmann Busch (LHB) of Germany in the Mumbai-New Delhi Rajdhani Express.

RCF has redesigned LHB AC Sleeper Coaches for Rajdhani Express. The RCF will also be turning out LHB designed coaches for Jan Shatabdi rake during 2003-2004.

The new LHB design coaches have been remodeled to meet requirements for sleeper coaches including interiors and the bogie for the new AC 2-Tier Coaches indigenously

Passenger safety has been given paramount importance. Accordingly, stainless steel has been extensively used in the construction of these coaches. Stainless steel provides excellent protection against corrosion and the coaches are designed to maintain their strength throughout the service life. The reliability and strength of the joints have also been improved.

Besides, these coaches have been provided with disk brakes for more reliable braking at higher speeds. The brakes are also fitted with anti-skid feature to prevent skidding of wheel in case of sudden braking. These brakes are almost maintenance free.

In addition, the newly designed AC 2-Tier Coaches have been equipped with several new features to make journey more comfortable and aesthetically delightful. Seats and berths have been designed keeping in view the anthropometric data of Indian population. Comfortable cushioning and aesthetically superior upholstery have been provided to ensure improved posture and comfort for passengers while sitting or sleeping. Berth reading lights have been integrated in the head rest. These coaches are also fitted with wider windows with dual pan windows filled with Kr gas and use of sun control film on the outer surfaces of the glasses to provide pleasant panoramic view to the passengers.

These coaches are fitted with a modular pantry equipped with Hot Case, Bottle Cooler, Deep Freezer, Soup Warmer and Tea/Coffee Dispenser.

Toilets in these coaches are fitted with a controlled discharge system to ensure that its waste does not fall on the ground unless the train is moving at speeds above 30 kilometre per hour.

The introduction of these coaches, to begin with, in Rajdhani Express train will make rail journeys most comfortable and comparable with the best available in the developed nations.
