Passenger safety
has been given paramount importance. Accordingly, stainless steel
has been extensively used in the construction of these coaches.
Stainless steel provides excellent protection against corrosion
and the coaches are designed to maintain their strength throughout
the service life. The reliability and strength of the joints have
also been improved.
Besides, these coaches
have been provided with disk brakes for more reliable braking
at higher speeds. The brakes are also fitted with anti-skid feature
to prevent skidding of wheel in case of sudden braking. These
brakes are almost maintenance free.
In addition, the
newly designed AC 2-Tier Coaches have been equipped with several
new features to make journey more comfortable and aesthetically
delightful. Seats and berths have been designed keeping in view
the anthropometric data of Indian population. Comfortable cushioning
and aesthetically superior upholstery have been provided to ensure
improved posture and comfort for passengers while sitting or sleeping.
Berth reading lights have been integrated in the head rest. These
coaches are also fitted with wider windows with dual pan windows
filled with Kr gas and use of sun control film on the outer surfaces
of the glasses to provide pleasant panoramic view to the passengers.
These coaches are
fitted with a modular pantry equipped with Hot Case, Bottle Cooler,
Deep Freezer, Soup Warmer and Tea/Coffee Dispenser.
Toilets in these
coaches are fitted with a controlled discharge system to ensure
that its waste does not fall on the ground unless the train is
moving at speeds above 30 kilometre per hour.
The introduction
of these coaches, to begin with, in Rajdhani Express train will
make rail journeys most comfortable and comparable with the best
available in the developed nations.
