RAIL CONCESSION IN AC CLASSES FOR CERTAIN PATIENTS FROM APRIL


The Ministry of Railways has issued orders granting concession in AC 3-Tier, AC Chair Car, AC 2-Tier and AC First Class also to cancer, thalassemia major and heart patients with prospective effect from April 1, 2003 in all Mail and Express trains except Rajdhanis, Shatabdis and Jana Shatabadis.

The element of concession will be 75 per cent in AC 3-Tier and AC Chair Car and 50 per cent in AC 2-Tier and AC First Class. One escort or attendant or companion traveling with the patient will also get the same element of concession as applicable to patient.

The existing element of concession in Second, Sleeper and First Class shall continue to be 75 per cent for each such patient and his or her escort or companion or attendant.

The Zonal Railways have been directed to implement the orders subject to conditions in coaching traffic rules.

The concessions in AC Classes to patients suffering from cancer, thalassemia major and heart ailment follow the announcement made by the Railway Minister Shri Nitish Kumar in his Railway Budget 2003-2004 speech in the Lok Sabha on February 26, 2003.
