ALLOCATION FOR MEGA RAIL BRIDGES
The Ministry of Railways
has allocated Rs. 150 crores for the four mega rail bridges under
National Rail Vikas Yojana (NRVY) during 2003-2004.
Of the total amount
, Rs. 60 crores has been provided for Bogibeel Bridge with linking
lines between Dibrugarh and North Bank line at an anticipated
cost of Rs. 1767.36 crores, Rs. 30 crores for Monghyr Rail-cum-Road
Bridge on river Ganga at an estimated cost of Rs. 921 crores,
Rs. 50 crores for Patna-Ganga Bridge with linking lines between
Patna and Hajipur at an anticipated cost of Rs. 624.47 crores
and Rs. 10 crores for Kosi Bridge estimated to cost Rs. 323.41
crores.
The rail connectivity
through four mega bridges under NRVY is intended to get over the
infrastructural bottleneck to meet the challenges of globalization
in bulk transportation of goods.
The NRVY, announced
by the Prime Minister in December 2002, provides four mega railway
bridges for all round infrastructural development of the nation
through accelerated rail connectivity of major ports and targeted
for completion in seven years time.
