MINISTRY OF TRIBAL AFFAIRS FELICITATES POPULAR FOLK ARTISTE SMT. TEEJAN BAI


Ministry of Tribal Affairs organised a special function to felicitate Smt. Teejan Bai, a folk and traditional artiste of National repute on the occasion of her getting the Padma Bhushan Award here last evening. The Union Minister for Tribal Affairs, Shri Jual Oram in his felicitation address said that Smt. Teejan Bai and her troupe has already made a name for themselves not only in Chattisgarh State for preserving Pandabani traditional art form but for promoting and popularising the traditional form particularly in the country and abroad. The art form is very popular in the social milieu of Chattisgarh and in the neighbouring tribal pockets of Orissa and Andhra Pradesh. The Minister presented a shawl, citation and cash award in recognition of her getting Padma Bhushan and talent for preserving the traditional Pandabani folk art form. Smt. Teejan Bai in accepting the felicitation in recognition of her talent spoke high of the Government in general and the Ministry of Tribal Affairs in particular for organising a special felicitation function and said that it would go a long way to show the tribal women power in the country.

Dr. Satyanarayan Jatia, Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment who was the Guest of Honour on the occasion congratulated Smt. Teejan Bai and her troupe for excellent work done for preserving and popularising the art form. Shri Faggan Singh Kulaste, Minister of State for Tribal Affairs and Shri Dilip Singh Bhuria, Chairman, National Commission for SCs & STs welcomed the artistes.

Smt. Teejan Bai and her folk artistes presented their unique performance in traditional colourful constumes before a packed audience.
