MAOISTS ACTIVITIES ALONG INDO-NEPAL BORDER

RAJYA SABHA

There is no proposal to increase the strength of BSF and ITBP in bordering area of Uttar Pradesh and Uttaranchal with Nepal in view of the sensitivity on Indo-Nepal border and increasing activities of Maoists nor any action plan formulated to encounter anti-India propaganda being run by Maoists in areas bordering with Nepal.

However, with a view to curbing various activities along Indo-Nepal border, the Central Government has decided to deploy the Special Service Bureau (SSB) as the border guarding force for the Indo-Nepal border. The SSB has also been declared as the lead intelligence agency. Besides, the States affected by left wing extremist activities and those bordering Nepal have been requested to intensify patrolling of the areas bordering Nepal to prevent the ingress of Maoist elements.

The Minister of State for Home, Shri Harin Pathak said this in Rajya Sabha in a written reply.
