RAILWAY PRODUCTION UNITS EXCEED TARGET


All the Railway Production Units performed well during January, 2003 with Integral Coach Factory, Chennai, Diesel Component Works, Patiala, Rail Wheel Factory (until recently Wheel & Axle Plant), Bangalore exceeding the targets.

The Chittaranjan Locomotive Works (CLW)and the Diesel Locomotive Works (DLW), Varanasi just met the targets by producing eight electric locos and eight diesel locos respectively. The Integral Coach Factory rolled out 80 coaches against a target of 89 and the Rail Coach Factory 76 coaches against a target of 80. The Rail Wheel Plant produced 10156 wheels against a target of 8452 and 3718 axles against a target of 3493.

The CLW produced 51 electric locomotives during the first ten months of the current financial year ending January, 2003. The DLW, Varanasi produced 90 diesel locomotives against a target of 87. The Diesel Component Works, Patiala just met the target by re-building 59 diesel locos. The Rail Wheel Factory, Bangalore produced 83477 wheels against a target of 83461 wheels and 35207 axles against a target of 33622.

The shortfall in the production of coaches in Integral Coach Factory, Chennai was caused by ongoing sources being developed for the prestigious Jan Shatabdi rakes, which are being manufactured for the first time in this year. The shortfall is to be made up in the coming months.

During January 2003, a total of 1770 wagons were produced as against the target of 1750 wagons, thus, exceeding the target by 20 wagons.
