In Andhra Pradesh,
strengthening of runway for operation of wide-bodied jet aircraft
with minimum load penalty has been taken up at Hyderabad airport
at a cost of Rs.70 crore and the work is likely to be completed
during 2004-05. After completion, more number of airlines will
get the benefit to operate their aircraft with less pay load
penalty.
Action has already
been initiated for construction of a new runway of 10,000 feet
length, civil and naval apron along with ground lighting facilities
and Instrument Landing System (ILS) at Vishakhapatnam airport
at an estimated cost of Rs.158 crore jointly by Indian Navy,
Airports Authority of India and State Government of Andhra Pradesh
After completion, wide bodied aircraft would be able to operate
on international sector also in all weather conditions which
will certainly give boost to the economy of the area.
In Uttaranchal,
subject to the availability of land by the State Government,
work is likely to be taken up for upgradation of Dehradun Airport
for B-737/A-320 type aircraft during 2003-04 at an estimated
cost of Rs.64 crore. After completion, operation of B-737/A-320
type aircraft will give boost to development of tourism and
economy in the area.
