STATES PROVIDE OVER TEN THOUSAND
CRORE RUPEES UNDER SPECIAL COMPONENT PLAN FOR ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT
OF SCHEDULED CASTES

Over
ten thousand crore rupees have been provided by 23 States and
Union Territories out of their plan allocations for the Special
Component Plan (SCP) during the current financial year. This was
stated by the Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment Dr.
Satyanarayan Jatiya in a written reply in the Lok Sabha today.
He said that the SCP, evolved in 1979-80, is one of the instruments
for the economic development of Scheduled Castes to channelise
funds and benefits from various sectors of the Annual Plans of
the States and UTs. Dr. Jatiya said that Uttar Pradesh had the
maximum allocation of 1540 crore rupees followed by 1103 crore
rupees by Tamil Nadu, 890 crore rupees by Rajasthan and 870 crore
rupees by Andhra Pradesh. The Minister said that specific schemes
are also formulated under SCP for the development of SC women
in the field of education, housing, drinking water supply facilities
and also ownership rights on assets created under SCP.
