Shri Nitish Kumar announced in the Lok Sabha today that the
frequencies of 2423/2424 New Delhi-Guwahati-Rajdhani Express
via Patna would be increased to 5 days a week as against 3 days
a week at present during the financial year beginning April
2003 and the frequency of 2435/2436 New Delhi-Guwahati-Rajdhani
Express via Lucknow would continue to be bi-weekly, thus, providing
daily Rajdhani Express services between Delhi and Guwahati.
Replying to the
marathon debate on the Vote on Account for the Railway Budget
2003-2004, Shri Nitish Kumar said that the route via Patna between
New Delhi and Guwahati was shorter and faster. The total distance
covered was 1959 kilometres as against 2013 kms via Lucknow.
In this connection, the Minister clarified that increase in
frequencies of Rajdhani Express via Patna would largely benefit
the people of North-eastern Region, while reducing distance
by 4 hours and 30 minutes.
As for New Delhi-Howrah
Rajdhani Express , the Railway Minister announced that the existing
2305/2306 Howrah–New Delhi Rajdhani Express via Patna which
runs bi-weekly would be discontinued with and 2301/2302 New
Delhi Rajdhani Express services via Grand Cord Gaya Line, which
runs five days a week, would now run every day.
