OVER FORTY CRORE RUPEES ALLOCATED TO NATIONAL MINORITIES DEVELOPMENT & FINANCE CORPORATION DURING LAST TWO FINANCIAL YEARS

Forty crore and twenty six lakh rupees were released to the National Minorities Development & Finance Corporation (NMFDC) by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment during the last two financial years. Of this twenty five crore rupees were released during 2000-01 and fifteen crore twenty six lakh rupees during 2001-02. This was stated by the Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment Dr. Sanjay Paswan during Question Hour in the Rajya Sabha today. He said that the allocation of funds to various channelising agencies of state governments is decided on the basis of their performance in the previous year and the availability of funds during that year. Dr. Paswan said that NMFDC provides loans to persons belonging to minorities living below double the poverty line for undertaking income-generating activities. The Corporation also provides micro-credit to the poorest of poor among the minorities organised in Self Help Groups. It has also started a new scheme for educational loan.
