INCREASING RAIL PASSENGER AMENITIES


Now that the current financial year 2003-04 has been declared as Customer Satisfaction year for the Railways, several steps are afoot to enhance safety, security, punctuality and cleanliness to enable users to desire great satisfaction from the Railways.

The allocation for passenger amenities has been increased to Rs.205 crore this year against Rs.200 crore last year.

In the area of safety, upgradation of safety related training facilities at all Zonal training centers, central engineering training centers, acceleration of the implementation of Anti-Collision Device (ACD), provision of continuous track circuiting on selected sections and improved crash worthiness of coaches have been given top priority.

Besides, amendment of the Railway protection Force Act has been taken up to enhance powers of Railway Protection Force. A bill to this effect has been introduced in the Parliament.

Monitoring mechanism is being streamlined and strengthened by introduction of a new computerized Coaching Operations Information System to improve the punctuality of passenger services.

Operation Cleanliness has been launched to introduce cleanliness in trains and on railway premises.
