RAILWAYS FREIGHT EARNINGS UP IN APRIL-MAY
2003
The
Railways earned Rs.4364 crores from revenue freight traffic during
the first two months of the current finanial year 2003-2004 ending
May 2003 as compared to Rs.4274 crores in the corresponding period
of the previous year, thus, recording an increase of 2.11 per
cent.
Of the total amount
earned, Rs.1939.51 crores came from 40.78 Million Tonnes (MTs)
of coal traffic, Rs.193.90 crores from 7.13 MT of raw material
to steel plants, Rs.198.35 crores from 3.32 MT iron ore for export,
Rs.385.12 crore from 8.45 MT cement, Rs.500.47 crores from 7.36
MT food grains, Rs.148.16 crores from 3.55 MT fertilizers, Rs.370.95
crores from 5.13 MT Petroleum Oil and Lubricant (POL) and Rs.515.60
crores from 11.02 MT other goods.
The annual revenue
freight target for 2003-04 is 540 MTs.
