NCC BOYS MOUNTAINEERING EXPEDITION TO JOGIN PEAK III FLAGGED IN
The All India
Boys Mountaineering Expedition to Jogin Peak III was flagged in
by Minister of State for Sports and Youth Affairs Shri Vijay Goel
here today. The team was led by Capt Hari Bahadur Thapa consisting
of 10 National Cadet Corps (NCC) cadets one JCO and 4 Other Ranks
successfully scaled the summit on June 12, 2003 at 1050 hrs.
The Jogin III peak
is located in the Garhwal region at a height of 19971 ft. The
climb on the peak required meticulous planning and excellent climbing
skills including ice craft and rock craft. This was the first
time that NCC boy cadets attempted Jogin Peak III and it was scaled
successfully despite all odds and adverse weather condition. The
aim of the expedition was to promote the spirit of adventure among
the young blood of the nation.
Speaking on the occasion
Shri Goel complemented the NCC cadets for successfully capturing
the peak and said that such adventurous activity goes a long way
in developing character, courage comradeship and cooperative spirit
in the youth of the country. Director General NCC Lt Gen Bopanna
informed that the NCC is taking out two mountaineering expedition
every year, one for the boys and the other for the girls. He said
this is the 51 mountaineering expedition undertaken by the NCC.
