VARIETIES OF PULSES, OILSEEDS, RICE, MAIZE, SMALLL MILLETS AND
RICE BEAN IDENTIFIED FOR RELEASE
One variety of
pigeonpea and two of black-gram have been identified for release.
The pigeonpea variety, BANAS 2, is an early maturing variety,
suitable for Gujarat, Maharashtra and part of Madhya Pradesh.
Among the two varieties of black gram, variety KU 96-3 is a short
duration variety suitable for the kharif season for Madhya Pradesh,
Gujarat and Maharashtra. The other variety , NDU 99-2, is suitable
for Uttaranchal, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir. The black-gram
varieties are resistant to yellow mosaic virus which is a serious
disease during the Kharif season.
In rice, variety
IET 13769 (CSR-23) has been identified for alkaline/sodic and
coastal saline areas across the country and variety IET-13354
for the coastal saline semi-deep water eco-system for West Bengal
and Assam.
In maize, some
important varieties identified for release for different situations
are Bio 81009 for the north-western hills ; HKH-1170, HKH-1171
and BH1620 for central & western Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Punjab
and Haryana; Bio 91116 for Rajasthan, Gujarat, M.P., central &
western U.P., Delhi, Punjab and Haryana; PRO-345 for Bihar, eastern
U.P., Assam, Orissa, West Bengal & eastern M.P.; Win-Yellow
sweet corn for Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Maharashtra, Win-Pop
corn II for Delhi, western & central U.P., Punjab, Haryana
& Tarai areas of Utaranchal, and Bh 2187 (Rabi) for Bihar,
Orissa, eastern U.P., Assam, Andhra Pradesh , Karnataka , Maharashtra
and Tamil Nadu.
In order to increase
crop productivity of small millets in north western Himalayas,
VL Mandua 315 of finger millet has been identified for release
in Uttaranchal.
Three varieties
of rice bean, namely, BRS-2 (for north-western hill region), RBL-35
(early maturing variety for all plains zone) and RBL-50 (green
seeded variey for all plains zone); and one of grain amaranth-
PRA-9401 (for the North-Western Hills) have been identified for
release.
