CLEANLINESS DRIVE IN RAILWAYS
The Railways have
begun privatization of cleanliness following the announcement
by the President in his address to the joint session of both Houses
of Parliament in Feb 2003.
Accordingly, contracts
for cleanliness have been given to private service providers at
Lokmanya Tilak Terminus, Sealdah, Barasat, Sonarpur, Howrah, Rajendra
Nagar, Patna, Hazarat Nizamuddin, Delhi, New Delhi, Bareilly Junction
, Bangalore City, Bangalore, Mysore, Thiruvananthapuram Central,
Trichur, Ernakulam, Alwaye, Chengannur, Kayamkulam, Alleppey,
Dadar, Bandra, Andheri, Borivili, Surat, Bisalwas Kalan, Barayala
Chaurasi, Raila Road, Attar and Nagda.
Meanwhile, a mechanized
cleanliness drive for trains at 50 major stations has also been
taken up in a phased manner.
Besides, a multi-media
campaign has been launched to create public awareness of cleanliness
and environmental concerns in order to keep railways premises
neat and clean.
