RELAXATION IN SPECIFICATIONS OF PADDY PROCUREMENT NORMS IN ORISSA

Ministry of Food has allowed certain relaxations in the specifications fixed for paddy procurement in Orissa during the Maraketing Season, 2002-03. Accordingly, the maximum limit in respect of damaged, discoloured sprouted and weevilled grains will be allowed for procurement up to five per cent against three per cent provided under uniform specifications.

Stocks having up to 5 per cent immature, shrunken and shrivelled grains also will be procured by the procurement agencies as against three per cent provided under uniform specifications.

Paddy under relaxed specifications as above, will be procured with value cut of Rs. 22 per quintal for Common varieties of paddy and Rs. 23 per quintal in respect of grade ‘A’ varieties of paddy. The relaxation will be subject to the State Government utilizing the milled rice from such paddy for PDS/welfare schemes. This has been done to reduce hardship of farmers and to avoid distress sale of paddy.
