FOODGRAINS TO UTTAR PRADESH UNDER SGRY
The Ministry of Rural
Development has approved the release 163857 tonnes of common Wheat
& 57771 tonnes of common Rice (Total 221628 tonnes of food
grains) as first instalment of foodgrains to the 52 district of
Uttar Pradesh under Sampoorna Grameen Rozgar Yojana (1st
Stream). This is 75% of the total allocation of food grains to
each district through FCI depots in the State. The State Government
is entitled to lift the foodgrains from May, 2003 to 31st
March 2004. The transportation cost for lifting the foodgrains
will be borne by the State Government and the payment of the foodgrains
will be made by the Ministry of Rural Development directly to
FCI on lifting of foodgrains.
The First Stream
of the Programme is being implemented at the District and Intermediate
level Panchayats. 50% of the funds are earmarked out of the total
funds available under the SGRY and distributed between the Zilla
Parishad and the Intermediate level Panchayats or Panchayat Samitis
in the ratio of 40:60.
