RAILWAYS EARNINGS FROM FREIGHT DURING
APRIL 2003
The Railways earned
a sum of Rs.2152.12 crores from 43.77 Million Tonnes (MTs) of
revenue freight traffic during April, 2003 as compared to Rs.2099.90
crores earned from 40.17 Million Tonnes of such traffic during
the corresponding month of the last year, recording an increase
of Rs.52.22 crores.
Of the total freight
earnings during April, 2003, Rs.129.77 was earned by Central Railway
followed by Rs.78.79 crores Eastern Railway, Rs.277.37 crores
East Central Railway, Rs.196.64 crores East Coast Railway, Rs.230.85
crores Northern Railway, Rs.23.39 crores North Central Railway,
Rs.3.55 crores North Eastern Railway, Rs.54.39 crores Northeast
Frontier Railway, Rs.62.67 crores North Western Railway, Rs.71.80
crores Southern Railway, Rs.138.72 crores South Central Railway,
Rs.207.82 crores South Eastern Railway, Rs.392.93 crores South
East Central Railway, Rs.58.26 crores South Western Railway, Rs.130.56
crores Western Railway and Rs.94.61 crores West Central Railway.
The revenue freight
target for the current financial year is 540 MTs compared to 515
MTs(revised) for the year 2002-2003 but actually transported 518.48
MTs.
